FAQ

Under what category do the audio products fall on this website?

The audio products available on this website fall under the category of professional, royalty-free, non-exclusive sound effects and ambient soundscapes. These are specifically designed for use in filmmaking, documentaries, and a wide range of multimedia platforms and formats.

All audio content is copyrighted by BharatSounds.com, operated by ShashiRaj Productions and founded by Reenam Jain.

What makes BharatSounds.com stand out?

While sound designers and multimedia creators may come across a limited selection of Indian soundscapes on major marketplaces like Envato AudioJungle and Pond5 (names mentioned for neutral comparison), these platforms typically offer scattered and less specialized options.

Instead of scattered and limited options, the platform offers a focused and growing collection of authentic Indian ambient soundscapes, carefully designed for filmmaking, documentaries, and modern multimedia production. This specialization ensures consistency, cultural accuracy, and production-ready quality, making it a reliable choice for professionals who need true-to-life Indian audio environments.

Audio Quality & Format!

All our sound effects are created at 96kHz, 32-bit float or 24-bit, in WAV format [True stereo].

How does delivery, download access, and licensing work after purchase?

When you purchase a sound from bharatsounds.com, you are purchasing a royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use the audio, not ownership of the underlying recording or a perpetual cloud storage service.

Delivery is considered complete once the download link for the purchased audio file is made available in your “My Account” section. From that point onward, it is the customer’s responsibility to download the file within the allowed limits and timeframe, and to maintain their own backups.

Each purchase includes a maximum of 10 download attempts and a download link validity of 60 days, both of which are clearly displayed in your account. These limits are in place to ensure fair usage and system efficiency, and are consistent with standard practices across many digital products marketplaces and online shops.

bharatsounds.com does not provide ongoing storage, re-download access beyond the stated limits, or archival services. Once the download limit is reached or the link has expired, access to the file may no longer be available.

We strongly recommend that users download their files promptly after purchase and maintain secure personal backups. Any exceptions or reactivation requests, if considered, remain at the sole discretion of bharatsounds.com.

Are there any royalties to pay to us?

No. All sound effects provided are royalty-free and can be used across multiple projects and platforms without any additional royalty payments, subject only to our license terms and EULA.

How much post-processing (EQ, compression, etc.) can I apply to field or ambient recordings??

It’s best to keep processing subtle. Field recordings should generally remain at or below their original loudness levels. Heavy EQ or dynamic processing can unintentionally raise the background bed, making it sound like a constant, noticeable noise floor. Aim for natural balance and minimal enhancement to preserve the authenticity and usability of the recording.

How is pricing determined for individual sounds?

Pricing is based on several factors, including recording complexity, rarity, effort involved, usability, length and overall production value.

How can I discover new sounds from the vast collection using a specific keyword?

Start by searching for a sound using the search box or by browsing through categories. Then, use the DISCOVER button to surface sounds you may not have discovered before. You can also click on SIMILAR tags to explore sounds similar to the one you liked within the library. Avoid generic or umbrella terms such as sound effects or SFX, as they apply to the entire library and can limit the relevance of your search results.

What are my rights regarding the audio downloaded as part of my purchase?

You only get non-exclusive and royalty-free usage rights. The audio download would not be considered Creative Commons or in the public domain. All products are exclusive to the bharatsounds.com and its owner.

Can I upload or stream these sounds on streaming services, OTT platforms, YouTube, SoundCloud, and similar online and satellite-based platforms?

The sounds are intended to be used as a background element within content or media, such as video or audio productions.
The audio products you download are licensed for use only as part of a broader project and may not be used as standalone items. They can be incorporated into video, visual, or audio productions—including films, documentaries, podcasts, audiobooks, audio stories, and fiction—provided they function as a supporting or background element, rather than the primary or lead component.

Payment unsuccessful/error/declined

We use secured and government-authorized gateways for payments. Therefore, if your payment was unsuccessful for any reason, the funds should automatically be refunded to your chosen payment method according to the procedures of the payment gateway and your bank. If you need us to investigate, please email us all information you believe would be helpful.

Are the audio files on this website available elsewhere?

All audio on this platform consists of our own copyrighted assets. Unlike other libraries that offer sounds found on free repositories across the internet, our collection is exclusive. The only exceptions are a few select assets marketplaces where we sell specific audio packages, and the website founder’s work with a confidential partner as a vendor. In short, our high-quality audio is available only here and through these few trusted platforms; we never provide our unique assets to ‘free’ repository sites.

What if I receive a copyright notice on YouTube for content that uses audio downloaded from bharatsounds.com?

We understand your concern. Since the sounds on this website are royalty-free and non-exclusive, just like most sound-effects libraries, the same sound you download may also be used by other customers. You may worry that if another user attempts to misuse the sound—by falsely registering it in YouTube Content ID—and later you use the same sound in your project, they could place a copyright claim on your video.

Let us clarify how this works and why you are protected.

1. Sound Effects Are Not Eligible for YouTube Content ID

YouTube does not allow generic sound effects or ambiences to be accepted into Content ID. This policy exists specifically to prevent false copyright claims.

If generic sounds were allowed, Content ID could mistakenly flag millions of unrelated videos.
For example, claiming ownership of a single dog bark could result in false claims on any video containing a similar bark, leading to widespread disputes and misuse.

Because of this risk, Content ID is designed for sonically distinct, long-form, original content such as full songs or films—not short, generic SFX or ambient sounds.

2. Content ID Has Strict Eligibility Requirements

To be accepted into Content ID, content must be:

  • Original
  • Exclusive
  • Sonically distinct

Generic sound effects do not meet these criteria. Even when exclusive rights exist, short SFX and ambiences are typically ineligible due to the high risk of false positives.

Additionally, Content ID access is usually granted only to large, reputable channels with extensive original catalogs, making misuse by bad actors highly unlikely.

3. Our License Explicitly Prohibits Copyright Claims

Our EULA clearly states that no individual or entity has the right to:

  • Register our sounds in Content ID
  • Claim copyright ownership
  • Create digital fingerprints
  • Assert ownership on YouTube or any other platform

Any attempt to do so is a direct violation of our license terms.

4. Your License Is Your Legal Protection

If you legally downloaded sounds from BharatSounds.com, you are fully authorized to use them in commercial and monetized YouTube content.

Proof of License

  • Your purchase invoice or receipt serves as valid proof of license.

Important Note

  • The YouTube upload date of a video does not determine ownership of audio.
  • Licensing rights are based on valid purchase and contractual authorization—not timestamps.
  • Upload timestamps can be manipulated using software tools, so they hold no legal value in ownership disputes.

You can safely dispute any claim using your license and invoice.

5. What to Do If You Receive a Copyright Claim

In rare cases, a third-party channel may issue a false claim. If this happens:

  1. Go to YouTube Studio
  2. Select “I have a license or permission to use this content”
  3. Submit your dispute using the template below

Valid disputes are typically reviewed and released by YouTube.

Are BharatSounds.com audio recordings whitelisted on YouTube and TikTok?

Across the industry, there is no true upfront “whitelisting” system for non-exclusive, royalty-free assets on platforms like YouTube or TikTok. This applies to BharatSounds.com just as it does to other royalty-free audio marketplaces, and it’s not something any asset seller can override.

All BharatSounds.com assets are licensed as non-exclusive, royalty-free content. You are free to monetize your project or content, but you cannot claim or register ownership of the audio. While end users are expected to follow this guideline, it’s possible that a bad actor with Content ID access could attempt a false claim.

In the rare event a claim occurs, it can be resolved through the platform’s standard dispute process by providing proof of purchase (invoice).

BharatSounds.com does not have direct access to YouTube’s Content ID system — access is typically reserved for ultra-large labels or creators with massive catalogs — which is standard for independent royalty-free asset providers.

Can there be artifacts in the audio recordings?

We take great care in recording, inspecting, and curating all audio files. However, due to occasional human error or oversight, some recordings may contain minor artifacts or glitches.

Brief or momentary artifacts shall not be considered defects in the overall audio file and may be inevitable, as these are real-world recordings often captured in uncontrolled environments. As a general guideline, recordings in which artifacts affect less than 5% of the total duration will not be considered defective.

If a recording contains persistent or prolonged issues exceeding this threshold, you may contact us to request either a replacement with another sound recording of similar value or a refund.

Due to the digital nature of these files, refund requests are evaluated only in cases where the recording is deemed defective under the above criteria. All decisions regarding replacements or refunds are made at the sole discretion of bharatsounds.com, following a full review of the issue.

Is that a hiss in the recording?

We use full-range, high-fidelity professional recording equipment. However, in quieter recordings, a slight electronically induced hiss may be audible.
In some cases, natural ambient elements—such as wind, rain, or high-frequency environmental noise floors—may also be perceived as hiss. As we keep processing to a minimum, these natural characteristics are preserved to maintain authenticity and provide maximum flexibility during post-production.

Is BharatSounds responsible if a platform rejects or restricts content using your audio?

No. All audio files provided by bharatsounds.com are royalty-free, non-exclusive digital products that may be licensed to multiple users. It is the sole responsibility of the purchaser to ensure that the use of these audio files complies with the requirements, policies, and guidelines of the platform or medium where the content will be published or distributed.

For example, a customer—such as a video editor, sound designer, filmmaker, or content producer—may use our recordings in a project intended for acquisition by an OTT platform, studio, or distributor. Such entities may have specific policies requiring the creator to hold exclusive ownership or full copyright of all audio used. Since the audio available on bharatsounds.com is non-exclusive and royalty-free, it may not meet such requirements. In such cases, any resulting issues, rejections, or legal concerns will not be the responsibility of bharatsounds.com.

Where explicitly required as part of a production or delivery process (such as cue sheets or documentation), the creator is responsible for properly crediting bharatsounds.com

Do BharatSounds policies apply to other domain versions of the website, and how can I verify an official site?

All official BharatSounds websites that are owned and operated by bharatsounds.com are governed by the same policies, terms of use, and End User License Agreement (EULA).

At present, not all domain extensions associated with the “BharatSounds” name are owned or operated by us. Only those domain names that are explicitly listed or referenced on bharatsounds.com should be considered official and subject to these policies.

To protect yourself from fraud or unauthorized websites:

  • Always verify that the domain is listed on bharatsounds.com
  • Avoid making payments on websites that are not officially referenced
  • Be cautious of unusually low prices or duplicate libraries claiming to represent BharatSounds

bharatsounds.com is not responsible for any transactions, purchases, or disputes arising from unofficial or unauthorized websites using a similar name.

Why are audio previews shorter?

To prevent misuse or illegal ripping, preview audio is intentionally kept short. This helps minimize exploitation while still giving you a clear idea of the sound.

Are the final WAV files processed audio?

The delivered WAV files retain their original, real-world loudness as captured at the time of recording. For 32-bit float recordings, we may apply volume normalization, as this format allows it to be done efficiently without raising the noise floor.
All recordings are carefully edited to remove any sensitive information (if captured), as well as clipped, distorted, or otherwise unusable sections. The final files are cleanly rendered for practical use.
Beyond this, there is minimal post-processing.

Is the loudness of the final WAV files the same as in the preview audio?

Preview audio files are LUFS-normalized to ensure consistent loudness across the website for easy auditioning.

However, the final WAV files retain their near-original recorded loudness. This means levels can vary significantly—from very low levels (e.g., around -40 dB or lower peak values for room tone or quiet ambience) to levels approaching 0 dB peak for louder environments such as traffic or machinery. However, we ensure that none of our audio clips exceed the 0 dB ceiling.

Why can’t I hear everything mentioned in the sound title in the preview?

Previews are shorter versions of the full recordings, so they may not include every element described in the title. The complete file contains all captured details.
